Our Kenya Program

Picture
Like much of Africa, Kenya has been hit hard by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which has left hundreds of thousands of children orphaned. Children's homes and orphanages have sprung up all over the country to care for these children, but most do not receive government funding and are forced to rely on donations in order to survive.

We are working with an orphanage located in Watamu, a small village on the Kenya coast to provide educational support for the 130 children currently living its care. For children in Kenya, education can be a pathway out of poverty.  Although education in Kenya is technically free and compulsory, state run schools continue to be overcrowded and under-staffed. At the coast, public school results on national exams are among the lowest in the country. Our Kenya program provides sponsorship for school-age children living at the orphanage, giving them the opportunity to go to private schools in nearby Gede, and a chance at a better life.

We are looking for families and organizations to sponsor the education of a child living in the orphanage to allow more of the children to attend school. For $500 Canadian per year, you can pay a child's school fees, giving them a chance at a better life. Some of the children still looking for sponsors are below. Click here to sponsor.

Morris
Morris's parents died of HIV/AIDS and he was sent to live with his grandmother who was also very ill.  When she could no longer take care of him and his sister, they were brought to the orphanage.
Morris is a very bright boy, who works hard in school, and is bringing home excellent marks. He recently wrote the KCPE examinations to get into high school and received excellent results.
Morris needs to continue his education. Can you help?
(By the way - Morris does not agree with the sentiments on his shirt!!!)
